Bradley Smith after horror crash at Le Mans: ‘I’m lucky to be in one piece'

Bradley Smith has opened up about the “hell of an impact” of his shocking crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and revealed his gratitude at emerging alive.

Smith was involved in a terrible smash at the beginning of the opening round o♐f the 2022 Endurance Wor𓄧ld Championship last weekend.

He was treated on the track before being hospitalised but has now br𒊎oken his silenc꧒e.

“Just like to say a big thanks to everyone that helped, looked after and suppor♚ted me during the last 36 hours,” Smith said. 

“It was one hell of a impact, and I'm lucky to be in one piece.&𝓀nbsp;

“Now I'm heading back home to begin my rehab. Although I didn't get very far into the race, the Endurance Wor🏅ld Championship was amazing event.

“So good to see so many familiar faces and feel the team spirit of the whole paddock. Couldn't of asked for better team mates, mechanics and staff as well.&nbꦇspꦆ;

“What a wild weekend, one for my oldᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ man story book.”

The Endurance World Championship had previously described the incident which hospitalised Smith: “Christophe Seigneur was unable to avoid colliding with a slow-moving Bradley Smith, while pole-sitter Karel Hanika was delaye🦹d when h🔯e couldn’t get his YART – Yamaha Official Team EWC entry to fire up.

“Seigneur was able to walk back to the pits, but ex-MotoGP rider Smith was taken to hospital for medical checks as a resu🍸lt of the substantial rear impact, ha♍ving received immediate medical attention at the side of the track when the field circulated under safety car conditions. 

“Smith suff💝ered no serious injuries but will remain in hospital for a period of observation.”

Smith last competed in MotoG🎃P in 2020 at Ap🐻rilia and is due to compete in MotoE this year.

He had joined the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a guest appearance as part o🍌f the four-rider MOTO AIN Yamaha squad.
