Franco Morbidelli leads a delayed final practice for the 2022 Indonesian MotoGP at a dry Mandalika ahead of flying rookie Marco Bezzecchi.
 
The session was red-flagged after five minutes when Alex Rins was forced to ditch his Suzuki as it burst into flames. Replays showed that the engine problem began at Turn 10 but Rins only spotted the issue on the exit of Turn 12, finally jumping off as he arrived at Turn 13.  The Spaniard was unharmed but Johann Zarco fell on the oil.
 
The action restarted after a short delay to clean the track, when VR46 Ducati rookie Bezzecchi built on his impressive form in the damp morning session by leading the field for much of FP4, using a medium front and soft rear tyre combination.
 
Fellow VR46 Academy rider Morbidelli only moved ahead in the final minute, also on the soft rear. Zarco record for third on his Pramac Ducati.
 
Soft or medium tyres were the preferred choice for the rear in the 'race simulation session'. Jorge Martin was the quickest rider on the medium rear, with only Luca Marini trying the hard rear before switching to a soft.
 
Medium and, surprisingly, hard rubber was in use for the front.
 

Qualifying 1 - for those outside the top ten after third free practice, including big names such as Marc Marquez, Pol Espargaro, Joan Mir and Francesco Bagnaia - will now get underway.
 

MotoGP's only prior track time at Mandalika came during a dusty three-day test in February, after which emergency resuꦉrfacing was required on around 25% of the circuit, from Turn 17 (the final corner) until after Turn 5.

In response to tyre overheating issues at the test, Michelin has brought a different, heat-resistant, casing that was last used at Buriram 2018. 

This weekend's event marks the first Indonesian ♓motorcycle grand prix since Sentul in 1997.
