Toyoಌta began its preparations for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix with first, fourth and fifth fastest times in opening free practice, sharing the leading positions with team of the moment McLaren.

Reserve driver Ricardo Zonta recorded the fastest time of the day in the second session, but only after his crew had worked throughout the mid-session break to repair a hydraulics problem that had stranded him out on track just before lunch. Throughout the second hour, t𒅌he Brazilian swapped times with McLaren's Alex Wurz, before posting a mark just over a tenth out of the traffic-affected Austrian's reach.

"It's always nice to see your name at the top of the timesheets, and that was a good day," Zonta reported, "The track was very slippery early on, and we had some problems with the balance, but we worked hard to improve it. Despite missing a few laps with a hydraulic problem, and then having an overheating issue this afternoon, we were still able to complete our long runs and put in a performance run."

Race drivers Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher proved well matched as they both featured in the top five, the pair split by a couple of tenths after a problem-free day running the latest circuit-specific aerodynamic package on the TFꦛ105.

"Everyone always tries to get as much downforce as possible at the Hungaroring so, like other teams, we have a special aero package here," Schumacher confirmed, pointing to the Toyota's revised set-up that, this weekend, includes a triple win♚g mounted near the roll hoop,"It should stay n♒ice and hot throughout the weekend, and that usually seems to suit us, so we will be targeting another decent points position."

"We had a decent day of practice and made it through our programme of set-up work and tyre evaluation without any problems," Trulli added, "Hopefully, we can main🐠tain strong pace throughout t⛦he weekend."
