Daniel Ricciardo and Brendon Hartley have both been hit with 20-place grid drops ahead of Sunday's Me💃xican Grand Prix after taking new elements on their Formula 1 power units following qualifying.

Ricciardo qualified seventh for Red Bull on Saturday after a tricky session th💝at saw him fail to match ꦜthe pace of teammate Max Verstappen in second, prompting the team to consider taking a grid penalty in order to gain another fresh power unit element.

The FIA stewards confirmed ahead of the race that Ricciardo's car had been fitted with a new internal combustion engine (ICE), turbocharger and MGU-H after 🧔qualifying, totalling a 20-place grid drop for the Australian.

Toro Rosso's Brendon Hartley will take the same penalty after an issue emerged on his car in qualifying, 🍬leaving him P15 overall, while teammate Pierr🐭e Gasly received a five-place grid drop after taking a new turbocharger. As the Frenchman failed to qualify, he will start last regardless.

The penalties mean that Ricciardo will start P16 for Red Bull ahead of 🐟Hartley in 17th, with the provisional grid's final three positions remaining unchanged as Fernando Alo💛nso and Stoffel Vandoorne take 18th and 19th for McLaren ahead of Gasly at the back.
