McLaren has ♔signed F♉ormula 2 driver Sergio Sette Camara to its Formula 1 Young Driver Programme in a test and development role.

The 20-year-old Brazilian currently sits sixth in the 2018 F2 standings with Carlin, where he partners Lando Norris, who will graduate to F1 next season as Stoffel Van𒈔doorne’s replacement.

McLaren says C𓃲amara will work closely with the team to provide “valuable support” to its racing programme throughout the 2019 campai🍷gn.

“It’s my dream to one day become a Formula 1 driver, and I’d like to thank McLaren for giving me this incredible opportunity,” Camara said.

“My aim is to integrate myself in the team and work as closely with them as possible; to listen, learn and help to develop as a driver, as well as support McLare💝n.”

McLaren sporting director Gil de Ferran added🅰: “We’re delighted to welcome Sergio to McLaren and our Young Driver Programme.

“We’ve been following his progress for some time and believe he is a promising young talent with a real potentiಌal. We’re looking forward to working with him to develop his skills as a well-rounded driver, while having him support our racing operations.”

Camara claimed his only win in🐟 F2 at Spa-Francorchamps during his maiden season in 2017, having previously contested European Formula 3.

While he is yet to win i♎n 2018, Camara has recorded eight podium appea🧸rances in what has been a consistent campaign.

Cama𝓰ra joins Norris and fellow F2 rival Nyck de Vries in McLaren’s programme.
