Alex Lynn takes debut Formula E pole in New York

Alex Lynn will start his first Formula E race from pole position for DS Viౠrgin Racing after topping Saturday's qualifying session in New York City.

Lynn will lead the🧸 field away for the first FIA motorsport event in New York later today a💙fter beating Daniel Abt to P1 in the Super Pole shootout at the street circuit in Red Hook.

Lynn recorded a fastest lap time of 1:03.296 to finish two-tenths of a second clear of Abt, as w🔯ell as becoming the series' second debutant to score pole following Jean-Eric Vergne in Punta del Este three years ago.

Qualifying acted as a missed opportunity for championship contender Lucas diꦏ Grassi, who could only finish 10th as he bids to capitalise on Sebastien Buemi's no-show and cut t🤡he 32-point gap at the top of the standings.

Sam Bird took fourth place for DS Virgin ahead of Dragon's Jerome d'Ambrosio, while N♕ick Heidfeld was sixth for Mahindra. NextEV NIO drivers Nelson Piquet Jr. and Oliver Turvey took P7 and P8 respectively, while Nicolas Prost was ninth for Renault e.dams. Bu🐻emi's stand-in and Red Bull Formula 1 junior Pierre Gasly qualified a lowly 19th.
