GP2 Series newcomer Marcos Martinez will not make his debut in this ꦫweekend's Hungaroring meeting after failing to make the qualifying standard in Friday's 30-minute session.

Although the Spaniard was robbed of the chance to stake his claim to a place on the grid after his Racing Engineering entry quit under hiꦗm after just three laps, the stewards of the meeting have decided not to allow him to take part in either of the weekend's two races after his qualifying ti♋me fell outside the 107 per cent limit required by the sporting regulations.

Martinez was making his first appearance in GP2 after replacing the more expe🐷rienced Ernesto Viso at Raciཧng Engineering, stepping up from the national F3 series where he currently lies twelfth overall.

"Marcos couldn't run in qualifying after the engine stopped, and that means he won't be allowed to race as he didn't have a qualifying time within the 107 per cent - something he had achieved in free practice," team boss Alfonso d'Orleans Borbon comment⭕ed, "It's a real shame as he's a very young driver, but already has proven experience in F3 and World Series. He only needs some more track time to get used to the car."

In a separate decision, the stewards also handed Super Nova's Mike Conway a three-place grid pena♛lty for the feature race after he crossed took the chequered flag tw♐ice during free practice. The Briton will now start 21st, promoting Xandi Negrao,Kohei Hirate and Adrian Zaugg.
