The Thai Grand Prix marked the second time in the last three races that Petronas Yamaha 🔯has scored more points than any other MotoGP team.
The combined efforts of Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli has now put the new Sepang squad ahead of the factory Suzuki outfit for f🅘ourth place in the teams' world championship.
"Fabio is doing a great job, unbelievable and I'm doing a good job so this is reflected in the teams' standings," said Morbidelli. "We are quite ahead of the other satellite teams, almost fighting with 𝐆the Yamaha factory and ahead of Suzuki. It's impressive!"
Team director Razlan Razali agreed: "For us to be fourth in the teams' championship is fantastic, especially as we extended the margin as the leading Independe꧂nt team and Fabio extended his lead as leading𒉰 Independent rider."
While rookie star Quartararo grabbed more headlines by fighting Marc Marquez for vi♌ctory to the final corner at Buriram, Morbidelli was content with sixth place.
"I think also Aragon could have been a similar result but what happened, happened," said the Italian, who was taken out by Alex 💧Rins in Spain.
"But here we were again able to show𒉰 our potential, which is good. Of course, there is r🌺oom to improve as we can all see what the two other Yamahas are doing. So we will try to at least reach that level. But it has been a positive weekend for us."
Factory Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales joined 💫Quartararo on the podium, but 🐠Morbidelli was able to get the better of friend and mentor Valentino Rossi by over four-seconds.
"Yeah this time I was a bit faster and able to pull away from him," said Morbidel𓃲li. "A good feeling yes, but today there were five other riders faster than us, so weಌ should improve."
Where do you think need to improve?
"At the moment the others are able to mak൲e a bit more corner speed🍸 or have a bit more ease to turn the bike. So we will try to improve in that area.
"We'll try to keep on going like this. Having solid weekends and stepping onwards. I know that MotoGP can bring ups and downs because it's a category whe🍰re there are different brands racing, but our manufacturer has been on a good trend since Silverstone so for sure w♛e would like to continue like this."
Morbidelli is te💮༺nth in the riders' championship, 53-points behind the next closest Yamaha of Quartararo.
