Spanish Moto2: Gardner: Maybe on the track it’s similar, approach is different

Remy Gardner says similarities to Wayne Gardner only go as far as the track; ‘Maybe on the track it’s similar at times’, but ‘approach mentally is completely different to my dad’. Fellow Australian Jack Miller likes the comparison, says Remy has that ‘dog in him’ that Wayne had.

Remy Gardner will start🉐 tomorrow’s Moto2 race from pole position after securing a new all-time Mot🐓o2 lap record in Andalusia.

It’s the fourth pole of the 23 year-old’s career, while the last pole came at Portꦆimao in 2020 - a race ꦚhe won.

Speaking after qualifying, Gardner said: "Yeah, honestly the bike is working🎃 well from FP1. We haven’t really moved 🦋too far away from the bike we started with.

"It’s all been pretty smooth sailing. I managed to do a decent lap in the m🌌orning and th𝐆e afternoon with the soft option that Dunlop brought.

"There was probably another 🤪two tenths to come out of it, but I just made a few mistakes. ও;

"Anyway, I got the pole s🍃o I can’t complain. I’m happy, and we have good race pace for tomorrow."

During the pos🍨t qualifying press conference, there was a fun moment shared between the Aussie duo of Gardner and Jack Miller, when the former was asked about similarities to his dad Wayneജ Gardner.

Gardner doesn’t believe the two can be compared much, especially ꦇon ♋how they approach racing.

"Probably a little bit different if I’m being honest. Maybe on the track it’s similar at꧒ times, but I think the way I approach things in the box and mentally is completely different to my dad, if I say so myself," according to Gardner.

And while Miller agreed with his younger countryman about off track similarities, Miller had a ripper of an answer for Gardner: "Ah, I think anybody watching from the outside… well his approach is for sure different to Wayne, but the riding style, I think you see that dog in hi🤡m, the aggression, the bike bucking and weaving.

"If you watch Wayne back in the day, it’s like a spitting image. Bot𒉰h just pinning it and it looksꦇ good."
