Less than a week after winning the Miss America 2005 crown, Deidre Downs from Alabama will serve as the Grand Marshal, and also sing the National Anthem, at the MBNA Aﷺmerica 400 this coming Sunday.

Downs, 24, an aspiri✃ng doctor who put off medical school to compete for the crown, bested Miss Louisiana Jennifer Dupont to become Miss Americ🍌a 2005. Downs won a $50,000 scholarship to continue her education.

A whirlwind publicity tour began in the U.S. on Monday morning, with appearances on NBC's Today with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer and ABC's LIVE with Regis & Kelly. After appearances on the CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman, along ⛄with corporate meetings, Downs will head to Dꦕover for race weekend.

She will make various hospitality appearances, participate in driver introductions on stage, and serve as Grand Ma⛦rshal for Sunday's MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Before you run for the volume control, she is very capable of singing the National Anth💛em as her performance of the ballad "I'm Afraid This Must Be Love," sealed the Miss America victory after a week-long preliminary competition in Atlantic City.
