Robert Wickens has undergone surgery on his spine fol😼lowing his i🥀njuries sustained in a horrific crash at last weekend’s IndyCar round at Pocono Raceway.

The Schmidt Peterson Motorsport driver collided with Ryan Hunter-Reay and teammate James Hinchcliffe on✅ the seventh lap of the 200-lap oval race of the ABC Supply 500 IndyCar race at Pocono🌺 and was launched by the Andretti Autosport driver’s car into the wall and catch fence.

Wickens’s car grinded along tౠhe side of the wall before spinning back on to the track and coming to a res෴t on the inside lane.

In a previous joint statement released by the team and IndyCar organisers, it was confirmed Wickens has suffered leg, arm and spi𝔉ne injuries while he also underwent an MRI scan at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest hospital.

In an updated🐷 statement, Wickens has undergone surgery on a spinal injury and will continue his re🦂covery in hospital.

“Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver Robert Wickens continues to be treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest following injuries sustained in the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 19,” the statement read. “An MRI was instrumental in revealing the most appropriate surgical course and Wickens is undeܫꦫrgoing surgery Monday evening for a spinal injury.

“Further updates wi♋ll be provided when available.”
