Team BOC's Andrew Jones has taken out the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Championship b💃y the closest of margins, after finishing second in Sunday's last round at Adelaide's Mallala Raceway. Jones' crowning making him V8 Supercars first champ of 2004.

After seventeen races in the 2004 series, 24 year old Jones finished on equal points to Super Cheap Auto Racing's Luke Youlden, who had lead by ten headin𝕴g into the final round. Jones was declared the series winner af🐬ter a count-back based on round wins in the championship.

A jubilant Jones declared his 2004 championship win to his late Grandfather - "Winning the championship would not♏ have happened if it w🌺asn't for my Grandfather [Phil Jones]. He started our passion for motorsport and I'd like to dedicate our win to him. I know that he would be watching me."

"I'd also like to thank my Mum and Dad [BJR Director Kim Jones and wife Frances] and my Uncle Brad [Jones, Team Principal]. ဣThey have been so supportive of my racing and have pushed me to achieve at a high level. Whilst I'm part of the family, things definitely haven't been made easy for me, I think in some cases it's been harder," Jones added.

The win also giving Brad Jones Racing [BJR] their first V8 Supercar ti✱tle, after dominating in every other category the Albury based team has competed in.

Asked on the podium how he felt about winning his first ever championship, Jones said - "I'm wrapped. I'm 💯just bloody wrapped. The entire team and our partners BOC, Parker, Sime Tyres and Gregorys Ford have worked so hard for this. It's just a great feeling to be part of."

"I going to be hanging this [championship] wreath so it's the first thin𒀰g that we look at when we go into the workshop. Hopeful💖ly it will remind us that all the hard work is worth it."

Heading into the third and final race, Jones was still two points shy of Youlden. In simple terms, it came down to whoever finished in front of the other driver would claim the 2004 title. Shivers were sent through the Team BOC camp when Youlden squeezed his way in front on the opening lap and started to pull away🍸.

"There were a few negative thoughts going through my head when I saw Luke [💦Youlden] increasing the gap but after a few laps he was starting to come back to me. After a couple of safety car periods which closed the break, I was able to get passed 🌊him."

"After꧋ that, I didn't look in my rear🐷 vision mirror once. I just concentrated forward and in the end my margin was quite comfortable."

The Konica Min🎃olta V8 Supercar Champion has, in the last three years, secured a drive in the main series the following year. With🍬 Andrew Jones testing with Ford Performance Racing [FPR] on Tuesday, the trend may well continue.
