Troy Bayliss admits he is smarting from seeing 50 points of his championship advantage decimated in one go after failing to score at all in round six of the World Superbike Championshi🍬p at Miller Motorsports Park.
Having gone into the weekend with a more than comfortable buffer on Carlos Checa, Bayliss was confident of maintaining the gap back to his rival when he🍰 proved one of the pace setters in practice and qualifying.
However, while Bayliss showed speed in both races to briefly lead them, he would still leave the circuit with a zero next to his name when he🌱 crashed in race one and hit mechanical problems in the second.
Slightly mystified by his fall in race one when he came down out of the final bend, Bayliss was out to make amends in the second when he suffered a gear l♌ever problem that forced him into the pits.
Although he would rejoin, it would be two laps down and mark his third consecutive non-🐠points score.
"I am really disappointed with today's results of course. In race one I crashed in a similar way to how I wꦦent down yesterday, which was a bit strange. Having said that, my weekend had been going ok until race 1 and I was feeling pretty positive ahead of race two. Although I got a good start, after a few laps something came loose with the gear shifter so I had to come in.
"We sorted it quickly enough that I thought I might as well go out and ride, even if it was impossible to get points. I was going well out there but I was too far behind to make up any places. It goes wܫithout saying that after all our hard work this weekend I'm really disappoi꧋nted that we've given away 50 championship points in one weekend."
Indeed, while Bayliss still has a relatively good gap of 28 points on Checa, his run of poor form is likely to stoke up plenty of intere💛st heading to the next round at the Nurburgring.
