Despite only finishing tenth on the weekend, Howard Racing's Adam Macrow has done enough to claim the 2006 F😼ujitsu V8 Supercar Series, improving on the fourth place he had managed the season before to finish ahead of Jack Daniel's Racing pair of Shane Price and Jack Perkin🔴s.
Despite only finishing tenth on the weekend, Howard Racing's Adam Macrow has done enough to claim the 2006 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, improving on the fourth place he had managed the seaso🤡n before to finish ahead of Jack Daniel's Racing pair of Shane Price and Jack Perkins.
Macrow went in to the final round at Phillip Isla𝕴nd 120 points ahead of Price and looked set to capitalise on his healthy lead by claiming pole position, although this was turned around shortly after the session due to a breach of a technical regulation and was forced to start the first race from the rear of the fieldꦆ.
Macrow was able to claw his way back to finish a credible ninth position in race one and tenth in the final race today to make him nin🍌th overall for the round.
"It was a little disappointing to have that hiccup after qualifying," Macrow said. "I was fairly calm after we got told about the ruling because I didn't want to change my mind set for the race and the Champions🧸hip.
"I think we had the potential to win the Championship last year and it just ♊goes to show how consistent our cars and Howard Racing has been to be able to put together a good package all year and to be able to show we were the ones to beat.
"There is only one placꦛe to go and hopefully I will be able to make the move in to the Championship Series now that I have won.🧸"
Price, who has also competed for Team Sirromet at Phillip Island in the main V8 Series, gave himself every chance to grab the title away from Macrow, finishing on the same amount of points for the round as Dick Jo♌hnson Racing's Andrew Thompson but awarded se🤪cond overall going on the results from race two. He shortened Macrow's lead to only 40 points by the end of the day.
"To be honest coming into this year I would have been happy with a second in one race let alone coming🌸 second overall in the Championship," Price said.
"Unfortunately for today it didn't go our way as we struggled with pace and couldn't finish the year with a round win. Looking at the overall picture though we couldn't be happier with how the year has turned out and we will have ဣto wait and see what the next few months may bring.
"I think I am ready to make the step up ▨to the main game, ready to move along and hopefully Larry (Perkins) does as well. The main series is a whole different ball game so we will have to wait and see how it all works out."
Team-mate Perkins finished third overall 𓆉for the year and joined in on his aspirations of what next year may b♏ring.
"I could be having a qu♕iet word in dad's (Larry Perkins) ear about next year but I don't t꧃hink he will be listening."
Thompson continued his impre🤡ssive latter half of the season by taking out his second consecutive round win and confirmed himself as a starter in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series for 2007.
