Promising Manx rider 🔯Billy Redmayne has died from injuries sustained in an 🔴accident at the Scarborough Spring Cup meeting on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was airlifted to Middlesbrough Hospital after sustaiꦯning critical head injuries in the feature race, when it is understood he was struck from behind on the fastest part of the 2.43-mile circuit at Oliver's Mount.

Redmayne, from Laxey, was a full-time member of the parachute regiment. He was transported by an Army helicopter to the James Cook University Hospit⛄al and placed on a ventilator.

The sad n🐼ews was confirmed on Tues🔯day morning on Facebook by his girlfriend of two years, Hannah Wright.

Paying tribute t꧅o Billy, she said: 'We were told that the damage to his brain was too severe for him to ever wake up again. Even if we had waited for the swelling to go down𓆏, the damage was too bad.

'He also wasn't able to breathe for himself and was kept awake by machines. Myself and hiওs family decided rather than prolong the inevitable, we would turn off his life sup🐻port machine and donate whatever organs we could.

'I am holding on to the fact that Billy died doing what he loved, and that was the way he always wante🔯d it.'

Billy ♕won the Newcomers Manx Grand Prix in 2014 and last year took victory in the Junior race to pave the way for his full Isle of Man TT debut this year.

Northern Ireland's Lee Johnston was injured in a crash in a separate incident but escaped largely🔴 unscathed.
